A Tender Moment Gone Awry…

My kids and I were sharing a sweet, tender moment at bed-time tonight. I stroked each child’s hair, and began singing, “Hush, little baby, don’t say a word. Mama’s gonna buy you a mockingbird…” In an instant, I was taken back… My mind flashed back to different moments of rocking each sweet baby to sleep… So tonight, I paused my song to tell the kids about how I used to rock each of them as babies and sing that same lullaby…

Then, Kerry suddenly pipes up and says, “Yeah, and we used to pee on you too! It was gross!”

  1. I love those special moments with my children. Even now my oldest who is 14, I go into his room at night and watch him, remember and Pray for him. Of course I do this for all 3 of my children, but a 14 y/o doesn’t want to cuddle like he used to. My 8 year old I can still can cuddle with.

Thanks for sharing. To me, these are the most importatnt times.

    God Bless you and yours!

  2. My son, Kerry is just 4, and sometimes he wants to cuddle and sometimes he doesn’t. My daughter, Sarah is 6 and seems to need a lot more affection, and to a degree, I suspect she will for some time. I think it’s just a difference in personality.

Though I realize that a time is coming when they’re teenagers that they probably both won’t care for it too much! I’m sure this will certainly be at least a little sad for me!

Thanks for your comment. God Bless you and yours as well!

  3. Oh ladies, the best is yet to come…My children are now 30, 33, & 34. They are now the ones who are sitting around when we get together saying…”I remember when mom would tuck us into bed and read us a bed time story” or “Mom do you remember how you would be praying and one by one we would creep into your room and kneel beside you and pray with you?” or “Mom remember when we were sick and you would pray for us as you rocked us and held a cool rag to our foreheads to bring down our temps…” “Remember how we use to run into your room in the mornings and jump in the middle of your bed and wake you up?” and the list goes on.

Continue telling them the I remember whens and one day they will be the one to say “Hey mom, remember when?” Oh, and by the way, the hugs and affection will return too. 🙂

    • Aww…Jolene, thanks for your sweet comment. I sure hope and pray they’ll remember more of those kinds of precious times!! What a blessing!
