It’s About The Cross…

Psalm 96: 1.O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. 2 Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. 4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.

This past Wednesday night at our church, Pastor Jim read and taught from the above mentioned Psalm 96. Verse eight says to “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name…” While reading this verse, I could not help but think about how Christmas is supposed to be about Christ, yet too often this is the time He’s so easily forgotten by many. Our Lord deserves all the glory and praise, but He certainly doesn’t always receive it!

Pastor Jim also mentioned a song that a fellow church member had shared with him. Of course, I went straight home and researched the song and found the video. Tonight, at the Youth Christmas party at church, a friend asked me about the song (if I had found it, etc.) Well, just now I have discovered the lyrics also, so I thought I would share both in this post. The song is called “About The Cross,” and it is very appropriate for the topic of giving our Lord the glory. In fact, this song goes a step further, in saying that Christmas is not even just about “a baby in a manger,” but it’s “about the cross!”

About The Cross

By: Go Fish

Verse 1:

It’s not just about the manger
Where the baby lay
It’s not all about the angels
Who sang for him that day

It’s not just about the shepherds
Or the bright and shining star
It’s not all about the wise-men
Who travelled from afar

Chorus:
It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again

It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday

It’s about the cross
It’s about the cross

Verse 2:

It’s not just about the presents
Underneath the tree
It’s not all about the feeling
That the season brings to me

It’s not just about coming home
To be with those you love
It’s not all about the beauty
In the snow I’m dreaming of

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:

The beginning of the story is wonderful and great
But it’s the ending that can save you and that’s why we celebrate

It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again

It’s about God’s love
Nailed to a tree
It’s about every drop of blood that flowed from Him when it should have been me

It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
So that you and I could have real life someday

It’s about the cross
It’s about the cross
