He Walks With Me (In The Garden)

I can’t count on always having many to walk with me, but He is always there. With Him, I don’t have to worry about having the right thing to say. In fact, I don’t even have to say anything at all. I don’t have to be concerned about being misunderstood, because He understands me better than anyone. He’s not just looking for fault in me, and when I do make mistakes, He’s always willing to forgive…

In The Garden

By: Charles Austin Miles, 1913

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

I’d stay in the garden with Him
‘Tho the night around me be falling
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

  1. In the Garden is my favorite hymn! Page #385 in the Baptist Hymnal! LOL!

Hi Tracy! It’s always been a favorite of mine. My dad and I used to sing it together.

Wow, it’s obviously your favorite–#385, huh?!
You know, as soon as I read your comment, I went looking for my Baptist Hymnal and was quite disappointed to discover I’ve misplaced it! If found several other hymnals, but not my newest copy of the Baptist Hymnal. Have I mentioned that organization is not one of my strong-points?! LOL!

Oh well, it’s ’round here somewhere–this just gives me one more thing to look for and one more reason to clean up the clutter! LOL!

  2. This song touches me to the depths of my soul. I can not express in words how I feel. Every time I hear it, I cry. It is a song that I hear when I awake in the morning.

My spirit feels richer each time I hear this.

  3. In the garden was my mom’s favorite hymn. Today is the one year anniversary of her death. I will singing In The Garden all day long just for her.

  4. I had a panic attack this morning. It scared me really bad because I couldn’t breathe. I turned to the Lord and He gave me the song “He Walks With Me” but all I could remember was the chorus. I have my hymnal book sitting in front of me because I like to praise the Lord out of it, but that song wasn’t in it. So I got online and found your website. Thank you so-o-o-o much for putting the words to this song on your site. It really blessed me.

    • Dear Cherry, I’m all too familiar w/ panic attacks…have been there, done that a few times in the past. Songs like this one bring me much comfort too. I’m so very glad this was a blessing to you today. I’m so thankful for all the little ways God has also sent me encouragement along the way.

May God bless you and keep you.
