Marriage Takes Three

A friend gave me a plaque that hangs on the wall, in the same place it’s been for a decade. I pass it several times daily, as I scurry around the house trying to get things done. This wonderful reminder is a poem about the key to a good marriage…

Marriage Takes Three us-cutting-cake001

(By: Beth Stuckwisch)

Marriage takes three to be complete;
It’s not enough for two to meet.
They must be united in love
By love’s Creator, God above.
Then their love will be firm and strong;
Able to last when things go wrong,
Because they’ve felt God’s love and know
He’s always there, He’ll never go.
And they have both loved Him in kind
With all the heart and soul and mind
And in that love they’ve found the way
To love each other every day.
A marriage that follows God’s plan
Takes more than a woman and a man.
It needs a oneness that can be
Only from Christ-
Marriage takes three.

Well, speaking of marriage, this Sunday (Nov. 23rd), Scott and I will be married 12 years. I thank the Lord that He gave me Scott. I also thank God for keeping us close to each other and close to Him…

*P.S. For those of you who don’t know… Yes, the pic above is of Scott and me. This photo is of us cutting the cake on our wedding day, November 23rd, 1996.

  1. I think it is Joe Beam who talks about marriage this way. An ideal marriage is when both husband and wife are pursuing God at the same pace thus forming a perfect triangle.

    Happy Anniversary!

  2. OK…we just have too many similarities! Our 9th anniversary was yesterday, Nov. 20th. Three days off…but close enough. 😀
    What a beautiful wedding photo, Janet!

    In Christ,

  4. I am very sad at how many young couples forget to invite the real important One to become a part of their lives and marriages.
