2 Yrs. I’ve Been At This…

…Yep, today marks 2 yrs. of blogging…Can you believe it?! When I think of my “blogoversary,” I automatically think about homeschooling too (this also makes over 3 yrs. that I’ve been homeschooling). You see, blogging and homeschooling have been intertwined for me. While I’ve been homeschooling, blogging has been a source of comfort & solace for me. It’s been an outlet and a way to help keep me feeling connected with the outside world.

Today reminds me of all the Lord has brought me through, all He has taught me, and how very much He has blessed my family and I. I am so thankful to God for allowing me this opportunity to home-school and to share it with others. I’m also very grateful for all the wonderful people I have met through this experience…so many followers of Christ and homeschooling moms, who have encouraged me along this journey.

S-O-O-O many times I’ve wanted to quit. So many times I’ve started to quit. Yes, countless times, I’ve almost given up…on blogging, homeschooling, cooking, cleaning…You name it.

I’m glad I didn’t. )

I appreciate all of you who have helped me to “hang in there.” Thanks for all your thoughtful words and prayers. You know who you are…and God knows. I pray that I can pass on to others what you have shown me…God’s love, strength, and courage.

May God bless you all!

“…Whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.–Philippians 3:7-14

Where Is That?…

…it was just here…I know it was! It’s like it grew legs and ran away. No, it sprouted wings and flew away! Do you know the feeling? Well, I guess this post will show just how disorganized and scattered I can be at times, but for some reason, I can’t resist! Besides, I’m sure some of you out there can relate, and those who can’t…try not to gloat too much!

So…my Thursday 13 for this week is:

Edition #11

13 Items I Frequently Lose (and spend a lot of time looking for!):

1. Tape (No matter how many tape dispensers I keep on hand, I can never seem to find tape when I need it! Can anyone relate?!)

2. Scissors (I finally found one central place to put the several pairs of scissors, and I’ve pretty much learned to put them back. However, in the middle of using a pair, I still tend to lose them a lot…you know, the whole sprouting wings thing and disappearing act!)

3. Ruler (I think we now have at least 6-8 rulers in the house, yet no one can seem to readily locate a ruler when they need one!)

4. Brush, comb, hair barrettes, hair ties, spray conditioner, and spray detangler (Can’t imagine why I have so many bad hair days?!)

5. Socks (S-h-h, don’t tell anyone, but my socks don’t always match exactly!)

6. Umbrella (I’ve quit carrying one; I only do rain-jackets with hoods now.)

7. Wipes (With small kids around, I just cannot tell you how inconvenient it is to not have a wipe handy when ya need one!)

8. Tissues (Results in situation much like #7 alluded to above!)

9. Gloves (Who needs ’em anyway…I think I’ve just about given these up too! Luckily, I live in the south!)

10. Sunglasses (I have improved with finding these since I’ve gotten two or three pairs at the dollar store, and I keep a pair in my vehicle.)

11. Pen (O.k., I don’t know how many 10 packs of pens I have purchased at the dollar store. I could have a hundred pens around here and not be able to find one when I need it most…like to take down an important message! What I usually will find instead is an unsharpened pencil or a broken crayon! )

12. Keys (I’ve started putting my house key and vehicle key in my pockets–one in each pocket of my jeans. This works out pretty good until I leave them in my pockets at night and spend the next morning going through pocket after pocket!)

13. Cell Phone (This is another item that must grow legs and run off some where. It just never seems to stay where I leave it…it’s very unruly!)

–One item I can usually find is my Bible, and that’s a good thing…’cause it’s my “road map!”

**Update: P.S. O.k., I just have to mention this…Mom, when you read this post, I know what you’ll be thinking! >>“That ‘girl’ is just like her father!”>>

What, can I say…we have to manage with the cards we are dealt, right?! Hee, hee, hee!

“Tag–I’m It!”

I’ve been tagged by my blogging friend Carol for the following meme:

The Rules:

1. Post these rules on your blog.

2. Write six random things about yourself.

3. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.

4. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

5. Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

6 Random Things About Me…..

1. My daddy got me my first little guitar when I was about 5 yrs. old. Shortly thereafter, I stood up (with it in hand) on the edge of the bathtub, jumped down, and broke the neck clean off! (Dad decided I wasn’t quite ready for guitar lessons….)

2. When I was little I said “Tar, Tar” for “guitar” and “floufer” for “flower.”

3. I’ve always said if I could be any animal, I would be a wild horse.

4. My mom tells the story of how she once smelled something strange coming from the dryer. She soon discovered that I had found a unique hiding place for my peanut butter sandwich. (Mom was not amused.)

5. I have a very distinctive, hearty, boisterous laugh–some call it a “HEE HAW.” (If you’ve ever heard it, you know what I’m talking about!) That’s o.k. by me, though. I love when I’m able to relax enough to LAUGH like I mean it, and I encourage everyone to do the same!

6. One of the first songs I sang as a solo in church was called “He’s Still Working On Me.” (Well, folks, that song still “rings true,” and I’m thankful that He’s not done with me yet!!)

That was fun! Thanks, Carol! Now, let’s see….who can I get to join in the fun? How ’bout the following:

Thankful Thursday (4/17)

What I’m Thankful For This Week (4/17):

“One day down and one to go”… (Sarah had the CAT testing today. We arrived before 8:00 am and left at about 1:00 pm! Thankfully, everything seemed to go really well on this first day of testing in English, Grammar, and Science. Sarah will have another 4 hours of testing tomorrow, in which she will take Spelling, Math, and Social Studies.)

HIS Radio (Christian Radio Online)I am so thrilled that I found this the other day, because my radio in the kitchen has never been able to “pick up” any local Christian radio station. It truly has been such a blessing to me to have the Christian online radio playing while I cook, wash dishes, do laundry, etc.

Blog visits, comments, “traffic,” etc.–I’m thankful for the extra comments and traffic I’ve received today, and I’m grateful for the wonderful response I’ve received in just over a year of blogging. To God Be The Glory!! This was something I had never set out to do or even knew anything about a little over a year ago. My hubby just suggested the idea to me one day and explained and showed me a little bit, and I’ve been blogging ever since. (Oh yeah, by the way, thanks to you too, Honey!)

Other Christian mothers–I’m so fortunate to have contact with other Christian moms from my homeschool group, “Bloggy Land,” church, etc. There are many wonderful examples out there of whom I have obtained Godly wisdom, guidance, advice, tips, ideas, inspiration, encouragement, etc.

My Family–I don’t want to ever take them for granted, so they’re officially on my thankful list every week!

My Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ–I don’t want to ever take Him for granted either or His sacrifice for us all! Therefore, He’s officially on my thankful list every week, as well!

My “New” van–I know I listed this a couple of weeks ago, without much further explanation. However, this time, I will list several reasons for my extreme exuberance and gratitude!

  • It has excellent air-conditioning (which I’ve been without for a couple of summers). Today, the temperature got up to about 80, and I was very thankful for the refreshing coolant system!
  • This van has working windows!… -D
  • …and working windshield wipers!
  • …and the head-liner is intact!
  • ALL THISand it’s “perdy” too!!!!

I’m blessed folks, truly blessed…so much to be thankful for. (Is my life perfect?…of course not…but yep, it’s a blessed one, alright.) I don’t want to take anything for granted! I just love Thankful Thursdays, because it makes me set aside time to reflect on all the blessings of the week!

God Bless you all, and please don’t forget to thank Him! -D

More Cute and Cuddly On My Blogoversary

Yep, it sure is hard to believe, but today is my 1 year blogoversary! Yes, indeed, I have been at this “blogging thing” for 365 days now! This Daily Provision site has certainly gone through some changes over the past year, but the main message has stayed the same.  God has continued to provide for my family each and every day, and I can’t thank and praise Him enough!

Once again I would also like to thank all of you who blog, who read my blog, and who leave comments, etc. This has been quite a year, and I am looking forward to many more!

You know how much I love the cute and cuddly, so to commemorate this special day, I give you more cuddly blessings:

Funny Dog pictures & photos # 90

**I really like this first photo above. Look at how two of the little pups seem to be trying to push this sweet baby back up, while the other pup oversees and directs the “mission!”

A Few Tidbits…

…O.k., here’s some interesting(?) facts about the author of this blog:

1. I’m human, which means I’m a sinner…

2. …A sinner saved by grace. I first accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was 9 years old.

3. I was also baptized at 9, even though I was petrified of being dunked under water.

4. Since then I’ve learned to swim, but still not jumping off the high dive or anything.

5. I’m a recovering “chocoholic.” No, seriously, it’s an addiction, and I have it.

6. One of the last things I ever wanted to be was a SAHM…

7. …Yet, here I am…staying at home…with kids. 🙂

8. I’ve never really known how to cook, clean, sew, etc…you, know, any of that domestic stuff.

9. …I still don’t. (Works out real well with me being a SAHM and all!) 😀

10. I write everything down–and I do mean EVERYTHING!

11. I make at least 3-4 lists a day…and yes, of course, I make lists of my lists! 😉

12. So far, I’ve never lost sleep over weather predictions of thunderstorms, hurricanes, or tornadoes.

13. However, to me, a leaky faucet, a loud ticking clock, or a noisy refrigerator is like taking “No Doze!”

14. I have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). Yes, it’s real.

15. Hey, was that a squirrel?! Sorry, focus…drifting…

16. I can sometimes be super-focused on one thing.

17. Multi-taking doesn’t come easily for me.

18. I LOVE to help people.

19. I want to feel like I’m making a difference.

20. I don’t like flowered-print shirts or dresses. I don’t like pink. I don’t like frills.

21. I’m not scared of spiders or bugs.

22. I love learning about all the different cultures of the world.

23. I’ve always wanted to travel the world.

24. So, of course, I now live in the same town in which I grew up! 🙂

25. I love my family–my husband Scott, our 2 kids, the dog, the goldfish…

26. About a year ago, Scott suggested I try blogging…I’m glad he did. 🙂

**P.S. Sometimes I like to state the obvious. Oh, and I love emoticons! 😀

Yes–Who Writes These Anyway?!

Well, I don’t really participate in these very often; these blogging “memes,” that is. In fact, I think this is actually the first one I’ve done concerning questions about myself. I’ve intended to before, but today I think I’ll actually follow through. Anyway, I found this “Who Are You?” questionnaire over at Jendi’s new blog site–here.

S-o-o-o, here goes…here’s the questions with my responses:

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Not specifically. However, my dad, brother, and I all have first names with the same meaning. My dad–John Sr., my brother–John Jr. (“Johnny”), and my name is “Janet.” John and Janet both mean “God’s Gracious Gift.” (I think my mom just wanted us all to have names that start with “J.” I hope she still finds the meaning of my name to be true! 🙂 )

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? Last week–sometime. I can’t really remember, exactly (I even emailed my husband to ask him). I don’t seem to cry as much as I used to (which used to be quite often). I’m not totally sure if I’m improving in that area, or if my memory is just getting worse! 😀

3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? To be honest, I don’t really care too much. Perhaps that is why most people can’t read it, and my husband calls it “chicken scratch!” 😉

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? Lean roasted turkey

5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS? Yes; 1 girl and 1 boy

Yep, for the most part. I would just become scarce and unavailable about one week out of the month! 😉 Oops, was that too honest?!

7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT? A lot…no. A little…perhaps.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE TONSILS? Unless you know something I don’t…yes.

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? There was a time I would have said, “ABSOLUTELY!” Now…not so much. I don’t know…I just don’t see the need.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? Oatmeal Raisin Crisp

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG? Physically–was once quite strong…now, not particularly. Emotionally–was once much weaker; am stronger now I think, with His help (still not a rock, but I’m depending on One!) 🙂

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM? It’s a toss-up–Chocolate Almond or Heavenly Hash. I don’t really eat the stuff anymore though 😦

14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE? Their eyes (eye-color, expression, trustworthiness, etc.–you know, “windows to the soul” sort of thing). I usually try to look away though, if it makes people uncomfortable.

15. RED OR PINK? Red

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? My tendency to want to complain at times.

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST? Myself as a teenager…TOTALLY KIDDING!!…I don’t think I’d even like myself as a teenager!

18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO SEND THIS BACK TO YOU? Not necessary–(“as you wish…”)

19. WHAT COLOR PANTS AND SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING? Worn-out, faded blue jeans and a dark blue t-shirt (I’m a “basic” sort of gal!)

20. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE? Half of a huge orange

21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? My daughter is reading these questions to me (that way, she’s reading something, and she feels involved).

23. FAVORITE SMELLS? There’s not too many scents I particularly like…light smell of Vanilla, maybe.

25. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU? Yes, that has a lot to do with the answering of these questions! 🙂

26. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH? Not much of a sports fan, but I do enjoy watching my daughter play soccer.

27. HAIR COLOR? Medium Brown with a few streaks of gray/white.

28. EYE COLOR? Brown

29. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? Occasionally; usually wear my glasses nowadays.

30. FAVORITE FOOD? Grilled chicken

31. Do you like SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? No scary movies for me! I’ll take the “Happy Endings!”

32. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED? Amazing Grace (That’s the last one I remember).

33. No #33 or did I miss it?

34. Do you like SUMMER OR WINTER? Neither?! Spring or fall

36. FAVORITE DESSERT? I’m sorry, but I refuse to answer! I’m blocking this question out of my mind right now!

37. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW? Bible; More Stories For The Heart (compiled by Alice Gray)

38. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? I don’t have one…is that o.k.?!

39. WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON T.V. LAST NIGHT? Don’t really watch much T.V. anymore.

40. FAVORITE SOUND? “The Sound of Silence?!”…Oh, yes, not really considered a sound. 🙂 O.k….I like laughter, rivers, waterfalls, and our fish tank.

41. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES? I guess the Beatles…in small doses.

42. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME? Once I went to NY City, NY– (just rode along with several others when my best friend Pooja picked up her family from the airport)…Other than that, Florida.

43. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT? Sing lead and alto and play guitar a little. I also like to think I have a special communication with and understanding of animals. I’m often pretty good at “reading” people too–except my own husband! (Certain things I have sort of learned to understand, but quite often, I still have no idea what he is thinking!! Well, keeps some mystery, I suppose! 🙂 )

**Note: No, this is not secretly just an attempt to see how many “emoticons” (smiley faces, winks, frowns, etc.) I can use in one post. Although, I do really like them!

Also, please feel free to join Jendi and I in this if you’d like–just link up to us and/or just leave me a comment or two.
