Happy Monday!

Ever had this feeling?  I sure have, but it’s never been this funny:

Lemonade’s A Good Thing…

…and I LIKE it!

I got an email from my brother Johnny today, entitled, “When Life Gives You Lemonade…Dedicated To All Pet-Lovers.” Of course, since I love dogs, lemonade, and all things inspirational, I thought I must share. Below is part of the message I received:

This is ‘Faith’

This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs – 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which needed to be amputated.

He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him.

His first owner also did not think that he could survive. Therefore, he was thinking of ‘putting him to sleep’.
By this time, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him.
She was determined to teach and train this dog to walk by himself. Therefore she named him ‘Faith’.

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let him feel the movements.

Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him to stand up and jump around..

Even the other dog at home also helped to encourage him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jump to move forward.

After further training in the snow, he now can walk like a human being.

Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he just attracts all the people around him.
He is now becoming famous on the international scene. He has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows.
There is even one book entitled ‘With A Little Faith’ being published about him.

**I say it’s always good to be reminded…of how to make lemonade! 😉

**P.S. I discovered Faith’s official website, here. The book, entitled, “With A Little Faith,” can be found over here.

The Thing With Commitments…

…is that…there’s all this committing involved! 🙂

Well, to those who know me personally, it may seem like I’ve taken a step back. You know, like I’ve started disappearing from some things and haven’t been as involved as I once was. Some friends, extended family, and fellow church members have started to notice this, and I have to agree that it’s true. (I may not be as present on the web either…less memes, daily stuff, and long-winded posts…maybe more quick posts, blurbs, and comments; on occasion.)

The good news is that it’s not because I’m severely depressed or anything. (I know there have been such times in which I’ve started slinking away from life because of fear, anxiety, stress, or great sadness.) However, my reasons now may still be difficult for others to understand, nonetheless. You see, lately, I’ve had to start making some tough choices, and it’s certainly not been easy nor fun…but necessary.

I’ve never liked feeling like I’m letting others down, so I often try to take on more, whether I can handle it or not. I also, like many people, don’t like to admit when I can’t do it all! Some may look at me and think that I can do a lot more than I have been doing, and for me to cut back even more would seem ludicrous! However, this is truly one time in my life that I have to make a concerted effort to not let what others think, guide my actions. I do not state this in anger, but only in absolute truth, with love. It’s just the way it is.

I have made a commitment, and I know it’s time that I start giving it 100%! My husband and I made the decision 3 yrs. ago to home school, yet somehow along the way, I’ve lost focus. Home schooling was supposed to be a top priority, yet I’ve let so many other things sneak in and take precedent.

The simple truth is that home schooling my children, keeping a home, being a good wife, and taking care of my family takes EVERY little ounce of everything I’ve got! There’s just not a lot left over! It takes all the faith, perseverance, energy, discernment, wisdom, brain-power, brawn, will-power, motivation, love, courage, patience, resources, money and time that I have! No doubt about it…yep, EVERY BIT!! 🙂

Sooooo, that being the case, what am I to do? In order to do the very best job that I can, I HAVE to start letting some things go. I’ve at least got to back off from some other activities for a while to give this a real chance!

Some may think that the price is too high or too unfair, but that is not really for anyone else to judge. Actually, it’s also, no longer the way I see it anymore. This is a season of my life, and this is what I need to do for now to have success in homeschooling. (In fact, as the kids get older, the instruction time will actually have to increase.)

Well, I don’t know, some may want more explanation, and some may want MUCH less! 🙂 Anyway, just know that I’m not depressed, I’m not mad, and I’m not giving up on life. No, the truth is, I’m actually just beginning to live…to live the life God has for me…one day at a time!

Status Updates…

…What we’ve been up to lately…if you care to know!! ;-) -D

Well, last week and this past Saturday, I REALLY started getting carried away with Facebook. I still like it, but in the last three days or so, I have put some time limits on myself. I’ve added some guidelines about when to use it, how often, length of visits, etc. (It can just “eat up” WAY too much time, if I’m not careful!)

Anyway, one thing that I do really like about it though, that doesn’t take a lot of time, are the “Status Updates.” It’s just a line or two, typed “in the moment” about what one is doing…a snippet…a verbal snapshot of part of a day. I’ve found I enjoy doing these, and they’re as much or more for me than anyone else. Each update is like a piece of the puzzle of what life is currently about for my family and I. These little blurbs can be simple, everyday stuff; maybe even slightly boring to some. I like to focus on some of the positive moments of the day and try to put a little humor in whenever possible.

Since it can also be difficult to keep this blog updated, I thought I would share some “Status Updates.” (These are especially for those of you who want to know and aren’t on Facebook). Here’s a few recent ones from the past several days:

Today (Tues., 2/3/09):

9:13am Janet ‘s off to exercise before school…jammin’ to lively praise songs with the kiddos! :).

12:00pm Janet ‘s working w/Sarah on a huge “Family Tree” diagram…for our “Thurs. School” presentation.

12:35pm Janet ‘s multi-tasking…still workin’ on that “juggling act” thing! Oops…ouch…things…falling!! I’ll get back to ya! :).

Yesterday (Mon., 2/2):

12:25pm Janet ‘s fighting a pesky virus…bombarding it with Vit.C, positive thinking, & prayer! Don’t want it getting comfy!! :).

6:12pm Janet ‘s turning off this computer…ha, ha!! Now, for some quality time w/hubby & the youngin’s! :).

Sun., 2/1:

3:06pm Janet had a great Sun. morn. at church…very uplifting! Now I’m at Scott’s parents, celebrating my niece, Rachel’s b-day…Can’t believe she’s 10!!

Sat., Jan. 31st:

12:52pm Janet is listening to MercyMe’s “So Long Self,” while cleaning and watching the kiddos play kickball in the backyard. :).

3:10pm Janet is enjoying the good life…listening to Dierks Bentley’s “Free & Easy…,” watching Daddy tickle giggly kiddos, and pettin’ my “dawg.” :).

7:48pm Janet is eating popcorn and watching Tom and Jerry with the kiddos! :).

Fri., Jan. 30th:

1:02pm Janet is having a weird day…but “Hey, it’s o.k., it’s Friday!” Yay! 🙂 (Can you pick out all the rhyming words?! 🙂 Little Kerry’s working on those!)

Thurs., Jan. 29th:

6:48am Janet is packing lunches and getting ready for our day at Classical Conversations (CC or as the kiddos call it…”Thursday School”).

8:06pm Janet is back from my Sarah Beth’s basketball game. She was very excited…they won 18 to 10…Woo-Hoo! :).

Wed. Jan. 28th:

9:31am Janet is getting “pumped up” spiritually with some praise songs first (while cooking, cleaning, preparing lessons, feeding the dog, washing laundry, etc.)! :).

9:35am Janet is thinking, “It’s a crazy, hectic, beautiful…wonderful life!!” Have a blessed day, everybody! :).

1:24pm Janet didn’t make it to the gym…So the kids and I did a Taebo workout tape. I said “Don’t EVEN!” when the kids tried to complain!:) If I can TRY it, they can!:).
Tues., Jan. 27th:

12:53pm Janet is taking a quick lunch break from schooling, cooking, cleaning, etc. I’ve been up since 4:30am (Scott needed help waking up so early). Yep, I’m feeling it now.

6:36pm Janet just finished up w/dinner dishes & clean-up…boring stuff, but necessary. A-h-h, now I’m going to sit down with the “FAM” and relax! :).
**Of course the above doesn’t tell you “the half of it,” but it does give you a glimpse into our little household.  Like I said, “It’s a crazy, hectic, beautiful…wonderful life!!”

Happy and healthy living to each of you…and blessings always! )

Do You Know How To Smile…

…or do you have to practice?!

Well, today’s been a tad frustrating, but what can I say? It’s just been one of those Mondays! You see, I had several family administrative-type things and domestic chores I was trying to get done today, but the kids had other ideas. Some days they do well with entertaining themselves some, especially when their cousin Rachel comes over. However, even though their cousin was here, today was not one of those days!

Anyway, instead of “going with the flow” today, I found myself constantly trying to swim up-steam. Inevitably, I let myself get very frustrated and stressed out. In fact, while I was cleaning up after dinner tonight, I realized that I had hardly even smiled today!

So, suddenly I broke out in a huge, forced smile (remembering things I’ve read about purposely smiling when one has had a stressful day). I didn’t realize anyone else had seen me, until my little Kerry broke my train of thought…

“Mommy, what are you doing…why are you smiling like that?” Kerry asked.

“Oh…I’m practicing smiling,” I replied.

“Well, I already know how to smile,” Kerry confidently replied. “You wanna see?” He asked, (as the goofiest, cutest, biggest smile spread across his little face).

Well, I guess little Kerry showed me! Some folk already know how to smile. They don’t need to practice! )

P.S. Have you smiled today? )

TT (#5)–Thirteen Tidbits

It’s that time of the week again! Happy TT! Here’s my Thursday Thirteen for this week:

Thirteen Tidbits (Interesting, different, and quirky facts about the author):

1. A few years back, I changed the battery on our car. (My husband Scott was not thrilled or pleased to discover this! -D )

2. I’m scared of fire and of lighting the gas grill. (O.k., maybe not just scared, but more like petrified for some reason! Let’s just say, I’ve done it; praying the whole time! I really like grilled chicken and steak! ;-))

3. I’m not scared of spiders, bugs, and the like. (Of course, I don’t like them in the house, though).

4. I’ve never been on an airplane before, yet I’ve always wanted to travel the world. (Just one of those little ironies of life!)

5. I once pressure-washed the entire house and re-painted the porch by myself. (Apparently, I needed more to do?!)

6. In school, I was picked on for being too tall and skinny and a “late-bloomer.” (Kids really can find anything to tease one about, huh?!)

7. I gained 100 pounds when I was pregnant with my first child. (Sadly, this is not an exaggeration! I had uncontrolled Gestational Diabetes–obviously, I didn’t know how to deal with it!)

8. Thank the Lord, I lost ninety percent of that extra weight and have kept most of it off for 4 yrs. now!

9. I was born and raised in the south, yet I’ve never liked fried chicken or barbecue pork! (I know; just doesn’t seem right, huh?!)

10. I was quite hyper and rambunctious as a kid. (Mom wasn’t too sure what to do with me and/or what new adventurous thing I might try next!)

11. When I was in college, I tried sky-coasting, which is akin to bungee-jumping. (I LOVED it! Well, that is once I got over the initial, immediate feeling that I was surely going to die! ;-))

12. Nowadays, I get dizzy just watching my kids on the tire swing!! LOL!! -D

13. Each day, I’m becoming more and more interested in following my Lord and living a life of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment! (This is TRULY the greatest adventure of all!)
