A Game of Tag, Anyone?

I’ve been sick the past couple of days, but I think I’ll take a break from being pitiful. -D

Jolene (my blogging buddy) tagged me over the weekend. Since I enjoy a quick game of tag, here goes:

Here are six unspectacular things about me:

1. Fall is my favorite season. The crisp air and changing leaves often bring a smile to my face and a special warmth to my heart.

2. My favorite colors are 4 of the primary colors…red, blue, purple, and green. (These are pretty much what I wear.)

3. Even though I suppose I know better, on occasion I’ve been known to say “y’all” and “ain’t.” (Well, I probably say them more than occasionally. I’m o.k. with it though…I am from the south, you know. ;-) )

4. I like to participate in many forms of art…singing, writing, photography, etc. I love the thought of capturing something beautiful to share with others.

5. The sight of a furry, baby animal still brings a smile to my face and makes me say, “A-w-w…” I just can’t seem to help myself!

6. Nowadays, I choose comfort over appearance when it comes to clothing. If it’s not comfortable, I’m probably not going to wear it. (Yep, plain t-shirts, blue jeans, and sneakers…every day but Sunday.)

Meme terms & conditions:

1. link the person who tagged you
2. mention the rules on your blog
3. list 6 unspectacular things about you
4. tag 6 other bloggers

O.k., now I tag the following:

Carol, Tracy, Barb, Jendi, Gina, and Lori

A Monday Meme

I found this meme at Gina’s site and decided to join in the fun! I discovered it on Monday and started it that night, but I’m finishing it up today.

Gina says to “tag yourself if you want to play!” So here goes:

  1. What was I doing 10 years ago? I was in my second year of marriage. My husband and I were living in a 1 bedroom apartment and were starting to look at houses. I was just getting ready to change jobs also (from one county to another county…public school system). I was also hoping and praying to pay off some debt and start having some babies in 2-3 years!
  2. What are 5 things on my to-do list for today? –(1)Pick up my 9 yr. old niece, run a couple of errands (pick up med., go to store, pick up film, etc.), and take kids to the library; –(2)Work on budgeting, fixing up bills, subtracting checks, etc.; –(3)Household chores (piles of laundry, dishes, cleaning up, cooking dinner, etc.); –(4)Work on paper-work (Program Application for Classical Conversations for homeschooling next year…9 pages altogether, Dentist new patient information…4 pages, calendar stuff, and planning for summer and next school year; –(5)Catch up on blog, emails, etc.
  3. Snacks I enjoy: Popcorn, peanuts, and yogurt (…Well, o.k., I used to REALLY enjoy chocolate snacks, but not so much any more…I mean I would of course enjoy them if I let myself have them. Well, that is I would enjoy just about anything chocolate until I felt guilty afterward!! ) )
  4. Things I would do if I was a billionaire: To be honest…I really haven’t given this much thought before. I would just be SO EXCITED and happy to get all our debt paid off (old college loans, credit cards, and consolidation loans). So, if I suddenly became a billionaire, I would promptly pay off all our debts (including our house payment) and be DEBT-FREE!! Immediately, I would call and tell my husband to quit his job too (and we could start some kind of home business and some sort of ministry). I would also help out my family members and friends. I would give to my church, World Missions, orphanages, pet shelters, etc. I would also want to take some family vacations, do some traveling, and go visit all our different relatives in different towns and states. Finally, I would set up some AWESOME college funds for the kiddos!! ) **P.S. Oh, and I would also have all our carpet torn out and replaced with hard-wood floors! Then, I would hire a maid!! ) Oh, and perhaps I would hire a chef and personal trainer too!! (You know, while I’m dreaming, I might as well make it really good!!)
  5. Places I have lived: I grew up and lived in the same house my entire childhood. Since then, I’ve still stayed mostly in N.C. (I’ve lived in at least 4 different towns/cities in N.C.) I also lived in Panama City Beach, Florida for one summer.
  6. Jobs I have had: **See prior post…“13 Jobs I’ve Had.”

Where Is That?…

…it was just here…I know it was! It’s like it grew legs and ran away. No, it sprouted wings and flew away! Do you know the feeling? Well, I guess this post will show just how disorganized and scattered I can be at times, but for some reason, I can’t resist! Besides, I’m sure some of you out there can relate, and those who can’t…try not to gloat too much!

So…my Thursday 13 for this week is:

Edition #11

13 Items I Frequently Lose (and spend a lot of time looking for!):

1. Tape (No matter how many tape dispensers I keep on hand, I can never seem to find tape when I need it! Can anyone relate?!)

2. Scissors (I finally found one central place to put the several pairs of scissors, and I’ve pretty much learned to put them back. However, in the middle of using a pair, I still tend to lose them a lot…you know, the whole sprouting wings thing and disappearing act!)

3. Ruler (I think we now have at least 6-8 rulers in the house, yet no one can seem to readily locate a ruler when they need one!)

4. Brush, comb, hair barrettes, hair ties, spray conditioner, and spray detangler (Can’t imagine why I have so many bad hair days?!)

5. Socks (S-h-h, don’t tell anyone, but my socks don’t always match exactly!)

6. Umbrella (I’ve quit carrying one; I only do rain-jackets with hoods now.)

7. Wipes (With small kids around, I just cannot tell you how inconvenient it is to not have a wipe handy when ya need one!)

8. Tissues (Results in situation much like #7 alluded to above!)

9. Gloves (Who needs ’em anyway…I think I’ve just about given these up too! Luckily, I live in the south!)

10. Sunglasses (I have improved with finding these since I’ve gotten two or three pairs at the dollar store, and I keep a pair in my vehicle.)

11. Pen (O.k., I don’t know how many 10 packs of pens I have purchased at the dollar store. I could have a hundred pens around here and not be able to find one when I need it most…like to take down an important message! What I usually will find instead is an unsharpened pencil or a broken crayon! )

12. Keys (I’ve started putting my house key and vehicle key in my pockets–one in each pocket of my jeans. This works out pretty good until I leave them in my pockets at night and spend the next morning going through pocket after pocket!)

13. Cell Phone (This is another item that must grow legs and run off some where. It just never seems to stay where I leave it…it’s very unruly!)

–One item I can usually find is my Bible, and that’s a good thing…’cause it’s my “road map!”

**Update: P.S. O.k., I just have to mention this…Mom, when you read this post, I know what you’ll be thinking! >>“That ‘girl’ is just like her father!”>>

What, can I say…we have to manage with the cards we are dealt, right?! Hee, hee, hee!

Thankful Thursday (4/17)

What I’m Thankful For This Week (4/17):

“One day down and one to go”… (Sarah had the CAT testing today. We arrived before 8:00 am and left at about 1:00 pm! Thankfully, everything seemed to go really well on this first day of testing in English, Grammar, and Science. Sarah will have another 4 hours of testing tomorrow, in which she will take Spelling, Math, and Social Studies.)

HIS Radio (Christian Radio Online)I am so thrilled that I found this the other day, because my radio in the kitchen has never been able to “pick up” any local Christian radio station. It truly has been such a blessing to me to have the Christian online radio playing while I cook, wash dishes, do laundry, etc.

Blog visits, comments, “traffic,” etc.–I’m thankful for the extra comments and traffic I’ve received today, and I’m grateful for the wonderful response I’ve received in just over a year of blogging. To God Be The Glory!! This was something I had never set out to do or even knew anything about a little over a year ago. My hubby just suggested the idea to me one day and explained and showed me a little bit, and I’ve been blogging ever since. (Oh yeah, by the way, thanks to you too, Honey!)

Other Christian mothers–I’m so fortunate to have contact with other Christian moms from my homeschool group, “Bloggy Land,” church, etc. There are many wonderful examples out there of whom I have obtained Godly wisdom, guidance, advice, tips, ideas, inspiration, encouragement, etc.

My Family–I don’t want to ever take them for granted, so they’re officially on my thankful list every week!

My Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ–I don’t want to ever take Him for granted either or His sacrifice for us all! Therefore, He’s officially on my thankful list every week, as well!

My “New” van–I know I listed this a couple of weeks ago, without much further explanation. However, this time, I will list several reasons for my extreme exuberance and gratitude!

  • It has excellent air-conditioning (which I’ve been without for a couple of summers). Today, the temperature got up to about 80, and I was very thankful for the refreshing coolant system!
  • This van has working windows!… -D
  • …and working windshield wipers!
  • …and the head-liner is intact!
  • ALL THISand it’s “perdy” too!!!!

I’m blessed folks, truly blessed…so much to be thankful for. (Is my life perfect?…of course not…but yep, it’s a blessed one, alright.) I don’t want to take anything for granted! I just love Thankful Thursdays, because it makes me set aside time to reflect on all the blessings of the week!

God Bless you all, and please don’t forget to thank Him! -D

TT (#5)–Thirteen Tidbits

It’s that time of the week again! Happy TT! Here’s my Thursday Thirteen for this week:

Thirteen Tidbits (Interesting, different, and quirky facts about the author):

1. A few years back, I changed the battery on our car. (My husband Scott was not thrilled or pleased to discover this! -D )

2. I’m scared of fire and of lighting the gas grill. (O.k., maybe not just scared, but more like petrified for some reason! Let’s just say, I’ve done it; praying the whole time! I really like grilled chicken and steak! ;-))

3. I’m not scared of spiders, bugs, and the like. (Of course, I don’t like them in the house, though).

4. I’ve never been on an airplane before, yet I’ve always wanted to travel the world. (Just one of those little ironies of life!)

5. I once pressure-washed the entire house and re-painted the porch by myself. (Apparently, I needed more to do?!)

6. In school, I was picked on for being too tall and skinny and a “late-bloomer.” (Kids really can find anything to tease one about, huh?!)

7. I gained 100 pounds when I was pregnant with my first child. (Sadly, this is not an exaggeration! I had uncontrolled Gestational Diabetes–obviously, I didn’t know how to deal with it!)

8. Thank the Lord, I lost ninety percent of that extra weight and have kept most of it off for 4 yrs. now!

9. I was born and raised in the south, yet I’ve never liked fried chicken or barbecue pork! (I know; just doesn’t seem right, huh?!)

10. I was quite hyper and rambunctious as a kid. (Mom wasn’t too sure what to do with me and/or what new adventurous thing I might try next!)

11. When I was in college, I tried sky-coasting, which is akin to bungee-jumping. (I LOVED it! Well, that is once I got over the initial, immediate feeling that I was surely going to die! ;-))

12. Nowadays, I get dizzy just watching my kids on the tire swing!! LOL!! -D

13. Each day, I’m becoming more and more interested in following my Lord and living a life of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment! (This is TRULY the greatest adventure of all!)

Thursday Thirteen #4

O.k….better late than never, right?! I’m usually pretty prompt, but this week’s been extra crazy! Anyway, here’s my TT list:

13 Things That Make Me Smile

1. My little boy’s morning “bed-head” and his ear to ear smile when he says, “I LOVE YOU, MOMMY! -D

2. My daughter’s peanut butter sandwiches made just for me with love

3. Spring-time–fresh air, gentle, cool breeze, warm sunshine, buds and blossoms springing forth, and birds singing

4. My hubby coming home from work in the evenings–with a hug and a kiss just for me

5. Standing with Scott, watching through the kitchen window, as our kids play and frolic in the backyard

6. The greeting I receive from my dog, Gracie, when I walk through the front door

7. Watching my children, Sarah and Kerry, singing Bible songs and doing sign language to the lyrics

8. Seeing my kids greeting people at church; shaking hands, hugging, and smiling

9. When Pastor Jim lets my kids take turns ringing the church bell (Little Kerry goes up with the rope, and his little feet leave the floor! It’s so cute! -D )

10. Hearing my little Kerry sound out a word for the first time

11. Reading a sweet note from my daughter (on no special occasion; “just because…”)

12. Walking into church on a Sunday morning with my husband Scott and our two beautiful children

13. Saturday morning pancakes at home with my family (as we sit at our quaint little kitchen table in front of the bay window; sometimes with the beautiful sunlight streaming in…)

**If we just look for these special little “smile-maker” moments, we’ll be surprised how many we discover! Have a blessed weekend, and keep smiling! -D

Thursday Thirteen #3

Last week, someone had listed previous jobs, and I thought I would give it a whirl. So here goes:

Thirteen Jobs I’ve Had:

1. My first job was at age 15; working for DK Clay. I cleaned and prepared thrown pottery for the kiln. (I think I broke more pottery than I cleaned! Oops! -D )

2. At age 16, I began working for Food Lion as a cashier. I can still remember being excited about making $3.65 an hour–(can you believe that?!) I worked there off and on for about 6 yrs. (throughout high school and part of college). (I think I still may have nightmares about “snow” and “never-ending lines at the grocery store! -D )

3. Health Plan Coordinator for Health Center at NC State (It sounds more impressive than it was, believe me.)

4. KFC–worked there for a summer during college (This was definitely not my favorite job–it was very fast-paced and messy. Also, I was a little too clumsy; a potential hazard in the kitchen! -D)

5. Subway–(I think this one only lasted a week or twoI’ll spare you the details).

6. Oriental Rug Liquidators–worked there for a summer during college.

7. Teller for First Citizens Bank–worked there for a summer before going to Graduate School. (I was excellent with balancing my drawer at the end of the day–my previous experience as a cashier came in handy! I’m still very particular about all my dollar bills facing the same way, etc.).

8. Winn Dixie photo lab–worked there for a summer.[Had a little problem with the machine one day and a few stray pictures “paid the price”-they were like disappearing socks in the dryer! (By the way, does anyone know where all the socks go-really, I want to know!) -)]

9. Year-long internship at an elementary school (training to be a Guidance Counselor, while often thinking, “What was I thinking?!”)

10. Guidance Counselor for two years at two schools (part-time at an elementary school and part-time at a middle school)

11. School Counselor for three years at a middle school (until 6 months into my first pregnancy)

12. Preschool substitute teacher for a couple of different Christian preschools

13. SAHM–almost 7 yrs now; home-school teacher for 2 yrs

Thursday Thirteen #2

Thirteen Reasons I Love My Dog:

1. She was much easier to potty-train than the kids! (Kids–Don’t worry; Mommy still loves you too!) -D

2. She’s a great listener; she never interrupts. ;-)

3. Gracie understands what “Follow The Leader” means, and she’s cool with it!

4. She rarely complains. (I do the least for her, yet she often shows the most appreciation!)

5. She loves me just like I am–(no worries about “bad-hair” days, plain clothes, awkward moments, etc.)

6. Gracie’s a “low-maintenance” kinda gal–(like meno frills).

7. She knows my moods…

8. …She knows when to come close and when to give me some space.

9. Gracie’s quiet and gentle.

10. She doesn’t ask for more than I can give…

11. …Yet she’ll take all the love I’ll give her. (She loves hugs.) -)

12. She likes just “hangin’ out”; being together.

13. Gracie watches over the kids, just like I do. (In fact, she’s doing so right now! While I’m watching through the kitchen window, she’s sitting quietly at the kids’ feet; alert and watching.) Good Girl, Gracie! -)

**P.S. I agree with the following statement and sentiment:

“Lord, help me to be the person my dog thinks I am.” -)

**P.P.S. Someone left a comment about wanting to see a picture of my Gracie girl. This is one I’ve posted before of when she was little:

Isn’t she sweet? You can view more pics by visiting this post here.
