Thirteen Reasons…

…to laugh:

_________________________________________________________

Today, I am combining Thankful Thursday and Thursday 13.

I am thankful to God for the gift of laughter…and for friends and family with whom to share such a wonderful blessing!

_________________________________________________________

13 Reasons To Laugh:

1. It sure beats crying!

2. It’s a great stress reliever.

3. It burns calories! It’s like “inner jogging!”

4. The devil doesn’t like it!

5. Laughter helps you remember “what will really matter in a hundred years.”

6. You might as well…

7. It’s free and it’s fun!

8. Laughter is good medicine.

9. It’s a wonderful blessing to share, and it’s contagious!

10. Do it…stay in practice so you don’t forget how! (If you forget how, who will teach your kids?!)

11. Laughter helps make burdens lighter…

12. …and the day brighter!

13. C’mon, you know you want to! 🙂

13 Scriptures

Edition #10

13 of my favorite Bible verses, chapters, passages of scripture, etc.

**Note: I believe in the entire Bible–as being the complete Word of God, and that all of it should be read and studied. I believe that the Bible should not be added to, nor taken away from. I also believe that no certain scripture is necessarily more important than another. The following is just a list of some of the verses that I am most familiar with, that come readily to mind, and that have “spoken” to me during trying times, etc.

1. John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2. Jeremiah 29:11-13: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

3. Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

4. Psalms 23, 37, 40, 42, 103, 119

5. Isaiah 40, 53, 55

6. Matthew 5:3-10

7. John 14

8. Romans 6:23, Romans 8

9. Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

10. 1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

11. 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

12. Matthew 6:25-34

13. Luke 23:34: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do…

13 Weight Busters

Edition #9

13 Ways To Keep Weight Down and Be Healthier (These have helped me.)

1. Drink lots and lots of water.

2. Stay away from sodas; even diet ones. (This can easily make a 10-15 lb. difference in your weight over time.)

3. Limit sugar, desserts, junk food.

4. Exercise–at least walk–at least 3 days a week. Keep moving–be more active and try not to stay too sedentary for long periods of time.

5. Go light on pastas, potatoes, bread, starches, carbs, etc.

6. Eat smaller portions.

7. Take your time when eating. (It can take 20 minutes for the brain to register that you’re full.) Also, when you know you’ve eaten enough, go ahead and remove your plate and get up, to help avoid over-eating.

8. Chew your food completely.

9. When you have the “munchies,” try chewing sugarless gum, instead of snacking.

10. Eat enough protein (meat, eggs, dairy, nuts, peanut-butter, etc.)

11. Drink milk (skim); eat yogurt, etc.

12. Make sure you get enough fiber in your diet.

13. Eat dinner by 6:00 p.m. and only a small snack thereafter.

**Update: P.S. Eat breakfast and try not to skip meals!

**Most importantly, focus on being a good, healthy weight; not just trying to get as skinny as possible or trying to fit into a certain size! Also, pray for the Lord’s wisdom, guidance, strength, and proper perspective. Ask for His help in keeping a balanced view of health, body image, appearance, priorities, etc. While it can be a good idea to lose a few pounds and maintain a healthy weight, obsessing over wanting to look a particular way and focusing too much on self and appearance is not!

13 Heroes

Edition #8

13 “Heroes” and Role Models of Mine:

There have been many, many people in my life that have encouraged and inspired me over the years. Here’s a list “off the top of my head” of 13 people who have really stood out to me:

1. Nannie Lee Smith — She was an “adopted” grandmother of mine from the church of my childhood, who went to be with Jesus many years ago. She was tough and outspoken. Nannie Lee loved her Jesus, and she loved people. She was not timid about sharing her faith, nor her love!

2. Margaret Johnson –She was an older lady from my current church, who went to Heaven last year. Mrs. Margaret had a smile that could “light up an entire room.”

3. Joyce Blinson –She was an older lady from my current church, who is also celebrating in Heaven now. Mrs. Joyce was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen, and she was always cooking for people, even up into her nineties!

4. My Grandma Gilbert –Grandma was a strong woman, with strong faith. She was also an AWESOME cook who cooked from “scratch,” and she cooked for many people for many years. In later years, she went through a lot physically, but now she’s running up and down the streets of gold with new legs!!

5. Esther in the Holy Bible –I love her faith, courage, and concern for others!

6. Naomi and Ruth in the Holy Bible –I love the strong bond between them and how Ruth stuck by her mother-in-law.

7. Mother Teresa –Well, what can I say?! AWESOME service, compassion, and love for others!

8. Corrie ten Boom –Oh, how I love and admire her strength, courage, faith, and FORGIVENESS! If you don’t know her story, please look into it!

9. Esther Long — She was my Sunday School teacher when I was a kid. Ms. Esther was one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever known. She didn’t have any children of her own, but she loved all the kids at church and showed so much interest in each one. Mrs. Esther was another one who had such a beautiful smile–oh, how I loved that smile!

10. Sammy and Teresa SpencerAs a kid, I thoroughly enjoyed going to see Uncle Sammy and Aunt Teresa. Their home was a few hours from ours, and they were always so welcoming to us whenever we came to visit. Sammy and Teresa always seemed like a really good match–they made a great team. Both loved God, people, music, and life. Sammy has always been so fun, loving, and easy-going. Teresa was the “perfect” hostess, who loved to have people over and loved to make people feel “at home.” Sammy and Teresa went through so very much last year (both having cancer at the same time), and they depended on the Lord to carry them through every step of the way. Aunt Teresa was very, very sick, yet she would still manage a big, beautiful smile for all her many, many visitors. She is in Heaven now, and Uncle Sammy is still here on Earth, pressing on. Losing his wife has been so incredibly difficult for him, yet he has still retained his wonderful sense of humor and faith in God.

11. Ellen LeeShe was another “adopted” grandmother of mine, who attended the church of my childhood days. Mrs. Ellen was a sweet, gentle, and quiet soul, who showed me so much love and encouragement. She is also in Heaven; rejoicing and praising the Lord!

12. Jim and Elisabeth Elliot I so admire their faith, obedience, self-control, and perseverance. They had such a love for God and commitment to Him. I will never forget their tremendous compassion and sacrificial love for others, as well. If you have never read Elisabeth’s book, “Passion and Purity,” please do!

13. Paul in the Holy BibleWow, what zeal, enthusiasm, and perseverance did Paul have, huh?! Paul had obviously made some major mistakes in the beginning, but he sure didn’t let those serve as an excuse to do nothing for God later! Once Paul’s eyes were opened to the TRUTH, he passionately followed God and sought to spread the Gospel wherever the Holy Spirit led him.

**Note: Of course, whom I seek to be most like is Christ. No one can serve as a better role model than Jesus–He’s the ULTIMATE!!

TT (#5)–Thirteen Tidbits

It’s that time of the week again! Happy TT! Here’s my Thursday Thirteen for this week:

Thirteen Tidbits (Interesting, different, and quirky facts about the author):

1. A few years back, I changed the battery on our car. (My husband Scott was not thrilled or pleased to discover this! -D )

2. I’m scared of fire and of lighting the gas grill. (O.k., maybe not just scared, but more like petrified for some reason! Let’s just say, I’ve done it; praying the whole time! I really like grilled chicken and steak! ;-))

3. I’m not scared of spiders, bugs, and the like. (Of course, I don’t like them in the house, though).

4. I’ve never been on an airplane before, yet I’ve always wanted to travel the world. (Just one of those little ironies of life!)

5. I once pressure-washed the entire house and re-painted the porch by myself. (Apparently, I needed more to do?!)

6. In school, I was picked on for being too tall and skinny and a “late-bloomer.” (Kids really can find anything to tease one about, huh?!)

7. I gained 100 pounds when I was pregnant with my first child. (Sadly, this is not an exaggeration! I had uncontrolled Gestational Diabetes–obviously, I didn’t know how to deal with it!)

8. Thank the Lord, I lost ninety percent of that extra weight and have kept most of it off for 4 yrs. now!

9. I was born and raised in the south, yet I’ve never liked fried chicken or barbecue pork! (I know; just doesn’t seem right, huh?!)

10. I was quite hyper and rambunctious as a kid. (Mom wasn’t too sure what to do with me and/or what new adventurous thing I might try next!)

11. When I was in college, I tried sky-coasting, which is akin to bungee-jumping. (I LOVED it! Well, that is once I got over the initial, immediate feeling that I was surely going to die! ;-))

12. Nowadays, I get dizzy just watching my kids on the tire swing!! LOL!! -D

13. Each day, I’m becoming more and more interested in following my Lord and living a life of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment! (This is TRULY the greatest adventure of all!)
